Our Community
Our PlayHouse conducts regular family potlucks, inviting current school families to enjoy a homemade lunch together. These potlucks create an opportunity for sharing and collaboration between community members, and allow parents, children and staff to interact and enjoy one another. Potlucks often occur in conjunction with school-wide celebrations, parades, and seasonal events.
Some of our favorite events include our Fall Festival Carnival, the 100th Day of School, and our spring Art Show. We also have regular Parent Education Nights, covering topics such as potty-training, positive discipline, and kindergarten readiness.
Our PlayHouse also works to extend children’s learning with relevant field trips and visits from community experts. For example, if a class is interested in learning more about the doctor’s office, the teachers may arrange a visit from a local physician or nurse. Often our learning takes us out of the classroom for field trips to the UNC’s Morehead Planetarium, Carrboro ArtsCenter, or sites relevant to our current projects.
Our school partners with several community organizations to support our overarching goals of environmental awareness, safety, outreach, and an awareness of differences. Some of our community partners include:
